May 3rd Hillsborough River State Park

Today we left the gulf behind, which is a little hard for water lovers. We traveled about 80 miles north and east to Hillsborough River State Park. This is one of Florida's oldest parks. We only had one day to see what was there, but it is a very nice park and campground. The following pics give you an idea of our day.

View of Tampa Bay while driving to our next location.   We will miss the Gulf during the months up north.

Arriving at Hillsborough River State Park

We had no sooner set up and were having lunch when this Pileated Woodpecker swooped into view.  These pics were taken out of Tweety's window just to show you how close he was to us.  He knew were there but really didn't seem to care.

Our friend stayed for about 20 minutes

One of the many views down the river. It was very clear and you could see large fish.

The bridge in the background was built by the CCC group in the 30's and it is a suspended bridge.

We got caught in the rain and took shelter, it only lasted 15 minutes. I would guess we had a good half inch in that time.

After the rain we went down to the river. Becky wanted to swim, but I said no.

As the sun set we got one more look at the river. This was about 150 feet from our camp site.

Looks like I am thinking way to hard what to add to the blog.
